Cigarettes will kill you, it’s true. I was going to do something about how a louse has your head as a house, but the cigarette won out.

Dated 20 November 2009. Part of my continuing obsession with drawing mugs of various kinds, those these are unusual in not having faces or anything to say. It’s also a wry commentary on the nature of representation.

Gulag is an ongoing character that Rilla and I talk about quite often. He’s just a book who wants to be loved and who is perhaps a little quick to anger, or at least is prone to raising his voice early and often.

Another random sketch from the notebook. I think I was trying to draw a proper face and it all went horribly wrong and the easiest thing to do was make it a bad potato.
