One of those excellent moments where you come up with a relatively amusing joke that makes fun of something that you yourself believe in. The execution isn’t quite what I wanted (see my post on inininoutoutout for details).
This one comes courtesy of Jen who wrote the phrase “deus ex housefly” the other day in an email. I think that it is one of the great collections of words of our time. Also influenced by the smooth stylings over at Super Mega Comics.
I’ve been thinking about weird “deus ex” mechanisms in comics lately and this one came, in convoluted fashion, out of a conversation with Rilla about stepping on sewing pins in our rug. Not that we did step on any.
Gamers basically get the best dialog in this life, talking about bizarre things like it’s nothing. The text of this comic comes largely from this thread of the same name. And yes, fine, panels four and five maybe shouldn’t be there.
This is a bit of a one off, again about lice for whatever reason. A hypothetical situation Rilla and I came up with about the two “final lice” on someone’s head who are, unfortunately, both male.
This one occurred to me while randomly reading internet stuff about the slow death of the moon in terms of space exploration. I hypothesise that people can’t be bothered going back because it turned out to be really boring there.
This one comes with a nod to Kath and Kim who, in their inimitable way, talked about an “escape goat” in one episode. The idea sounded charming and I wanted to make a hopefully charming comic about such a goat.
Another comic from the endless storybook universe of Rilla’s and my brains. Starring Meow Meow Cat from the comic “Hello Meow Meow“, this time even more sad and alone. Sorry, Meow Meow Cat.
I continue to try and find some kind of zennish ground in these combination drawing-poems. Maybe not even poems, maybe I inch closer to my long-term goal of becoming a professional aphorist. Or perhaps just an aphid, for now.
We were watching The Prestige recently, where it is possible this particular image came from. Also, I wrote a poem called “my hand is the same on both sides” – that’s the whole poem. Take it with you, enjoy it in private.
