I felt overly proud of myself for thinking of all these lame one-liner duos to make comic strips about, a kind of tribute to my interest in animate inanimate objects. Only Mortar & Pestle have their own strip so far. But just you wait.
I drew bananas and then worked out what they would be saying. That was the process. The caption was one of many I considered, and I also considered having a different caption come up with each viewing.
Another of my quick sketches in the notebook that is about talking cigarettes. I don’t even smoke. On the other hand, cigarettes are very, very easy to draw.
Another quick draw from the ol’ notebook. This one has the ring of truth to me, frankly. I think I nailed this one.
Just one of those things. I always imagine that if inanimate objects could talk they’d want to say their name all the time.
Came up with this brilliant idea for a cartoon duo while… looking at the mortar and pestle on our kitchen counter. And now I am unleashing them onto the world. Expect more.
Random cartoons for 18 November 2009, drawn while I watched a Cowboys game. Part of my continuing love for inanimate food and drink-related objects with faces and, when possible, beards.
Dated 20 November 2009. Part of my continuing obsession with drawing mugs of various kinds, those these are unusual in not having faces or anything to say. It’s also a wry commentary on the nature of representation.
Gulag is an ongoing character that Rilla and I talk about quite often. He’s just a book who wants to be loved and who is perhaps a little quick to anger, or at least is prone to raising his voice early and often.
Another random sketch from the notebook. I think I was trying to draw a proper face and it all went horribly wrong and the easiest thing to do was make it a bad potato.
