From my notebook, dated 01/11/09 – drawn while participating in decorating a cake. Part of my newly envisaged series of quick-drawn cartoons.
This started off as a comic about a criminal who literally did what the arresting officer said: “Drop the gun! Slowly!”, but then it turned into something about a snowman dropping a banana. Slowly.
Chad told me this brilliant story about father-child relationships and the status of interlopers. I drew it with coffee cups for the main characters because I can’t draw anything very well.
Gulag is a running character in my and Rilla’s stories. He’s a book with a difficult personality who just wants to be read/loved. He’s based on my experience with actively not reading the book “Gulag”.
I drew all the remote controls I could find at Rilla’s house one day while sitting on the couch. Then I drew panels around them and called it a comic. Hey, presto!
Drew this one while doodling in the library in Wellington trying to come up with something lightly amusing. I think I accomplished that goal.
From a sketch in my notebook done at the Media in Transition 6 conference held at MIT in Boston. I added the final three couplets after the fact, which is why they’re not quite so nice.
Drew this while sitting around in a women’s clothing store in MontrĂ©al (while others were shopping). Redrew it in photoshop and added little bits of shading or whatever.
The idea of ‘interactive euphemisms’ has become immensely appealing lately, largely in thanks to a conversation with Tyler about the subject. He wants to build them for real, but I just went for Flash animation this time.
There this ad in New Zealand where a girl recounts advise given to her by her mother which is kind of hilarious. This is that advice reinterpreted by three objects.
