I’ve been thinking about the issues surrounding lobster hugs for a long time now, and I’m glad I finally achieved some degree of closure with this comic.
This one came from observing an older couple shuffling along through the Rideau Centre mall in Ottawa. I took a bunch of source photos and then came up with the kind of conversation they might be having.
A long time ago I saw a ribbon twined in a fence on Tasman street in Wellington, New Zealand that said “I will call u.” It seems so poignant and I wanted to invent a back-story for it.
I was ultra-determined to hand-draw a comic and this is what I came up with for some reason.
I little piece of hypothetical autobiography. I swear that this is not actually true of me in any way. Or perhaps there is just the tiniest grain of truth to it.
Some couples are just so gross with their public, sloppy kissing. They’re so gross I needed to make a flash animation explaining how gross they are, but to a cat.
I love the song “Wouldn’t It Be Nice?” by the Beach Boys. I also love the flat sound of computer voices. Combined, it all ends up sounding surprisingly sweet and melancholy.
It’s strange when people use really extreme words like ‘desloate’ in more or less normal conversation.
In my notes I’ve written that this was inspired by the Chronicles of Narnia, but I’m not too sure how that’s possible. It’s more of an elevator-inspired love poem-comic.
