Pippin Barr makes games.

Hi, I’m Pippin. I make games. I write words. I make images. I wrote a book called How to Play a Video Game.

I’m an Assistant Professor in the Department of Design and Computation Arts at Concordia University in Montréal. I’m the associate director of the TAG Lab, part of the Milieux Institute for Arts, Culture, and Technology.

I currently teach an introduction to creative programming, a game design studio, and an internet/web-based art studio. Previously I have taught game design, experience design, prototyping, and criticism at institutions including the Institute of Digital Games at the University of Malta, the Center for Computer Games Research at the IT University of Copenhagen in Denmark and the HotSoft Lab at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada.

I have a Ph.D. and an M.Sc. from Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand. My Ph.D. was about video game values (PDF). My M.Sc. was about user-interface metaphors (PDF).
